The Poonawala Stud farm was executed in a short time frame
of just 8 months, as it was to be the venue for equine events.
This project spread over 150 acres has an entrance gate, an
equine viewing Gallery, R&D Centre and business facilities.
The entrance gate is 45 feet high, made with natural wire
cut bricks. The ceiling is a steel frame covered with terra-cotta
tiles on a silicon base. This gate is completely automatic
and provided with 6 different modes of operation.
The Equine gallery is 96 feet long with 8 feet glass doors.
No columns interfere with its impressive span. A 30 ton air-conditioning
system of ensures effective cooling even when the doors are
open.
The R&D centre and dispensary have been designed with
a cantilevered roof. This allows seated doctors an uninterrupted
view of parading horses. A Travis has been provided for the
administration of vaccines. The R&D Centre comprises a
dispensary, physiotherapy clinic and laboratories.
This
project has won special mention for "The
young enthused architect award",
A+D and Spectrum Foundation Architecture Awards 2002.
